Cooking: Feeling Downie? Eat a Brownie!

Have you ever wondered how you can cheer yourself up without the use of a certain Elixir? Well, we’ve got a treat for you today! Allow us to introduce you to the chocolate brownie. As the saying goes: “A brownie a day keeps the frownies away.”

We must first ask ourselves this question: “What is a brownie?” Well, a brownie is a square treat that is often fudgey or cakey, depending on the density of the brownie. They can include a variety of ingredients, like nuts, cheese, and chocolate! Today’s recipe will focus on the classical chocolate-hazelnut combination.

You might be wondering what all the ingredients are. Let’s find out!

For a serving that should cover the needs of 10-12 people, you will need:

  • 100 grams of butter
  • 2 eggs
  • 3 deciliters of sugar
  • 1.5 deciliters of flour
  • 4 tablespoons of cocoa
  • 1 tablespoon of vanilla sugar
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 100 grams of hazlenuts

For people who use the Imperial system, that would be:

  • 3.5 ounces of butter
  • 2 eggs
  • 10.5 ounces of sugar
  • 5.3 ounces of flour
  • 4 tablespoons of cocoa
  • 1 tablespoon of vanilla sugar
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 3.5 ounces of hazlenuts

We recommend you put your ingredients in separate bowls before you start baking. This will ensure that you have everything that you need in one place, instead of having to walk around the kitchen every time you need another ingredient.

Without further ado, here’s the recipe for the best chocolate-hazelnut brownies:

  1. Melt the butter and let it cool down. Meanwhile, roughly chop the hazelnuts, if possible.
  2. Stir both eggs and all of the sugar together in one bowl. Mix the flour, cocoa, vanilla sugar, and salt together in a separate bowl.
  3. Sieve the dry mixture into the egg/sugar mixture. Pour the molten butter into it, and stir well.
  4. Cover a baking dish of about 18×16 cm (or 7×6.3 inches) in baking paper. Spread the dough in the dish (it doesn’t have to touch the edge of the dish, it will spread evenly whilst in the oven). Sprinkle the dough with the chopped hazelnuts!
  5. Bake the brownies for roughly 30 minutes at 175 degrees Celcius, or 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  6. Make sure to let the brownies cool down in the baking dish before cutting them.
